Library Story: Family Influence

Melissa is a librarian of the JRVLS in Jamestown, ND.
Melissa is a librarian at the James River Valley Library System and is often seen behind the wheel of the bookmobile.

My love of the library and for reading began when I was three or four years old. I would visit my local library several times a week, check out more books than I could carry and read them all within a couple of hours of returning home. I always had my nose in a book and would often get in trouble because all I wanted to do was read!

While in college, I got a part-time job at B Dalton Bookseller. I had my own shelf where I would accumulate books to purchase on payday, which is why I never had a paycheck! I absolutely loved that job! Throughout my life, my family members always told me to become a librarian because it just made sense. Of course, I had many other plans. Ironically, after all of those other plans failed, what am I doing today? Working in a library and still listening to my family say, “I told you so!”
